2/25/2011 Outsourcing Fuel Management Glen Sokolis
It certainly seems that "outsourcing" is the buzzword these days across most industries. Fleet fuel management is no exception.
If you are the president, finance or operations manager, or even fuel manager at a fleet company, you should know that now is the time to outsource your fuel management. I'm not talking about outsourcing to a company located out of this country in India or China. There are companies with fuel management experts located right here in the good ol' U-S of A. They have extensive experience with diesel fuel prices, fuel cards, mobile fueling and overall fuel management in almost every aspect of the business. Read Full Article

1/28/2011 Rising Fuel Prices Mean You Need A Fleet Fueling Policy By Glen Sokolis
I was talking to a client earlier this week, and he was telling me his diesel fuel prices were up 23 percent since this time last year. He was thankful that his fuel management program with us was in place, but for those of you that don't have one, it's time to start reading about a fleet fueling policy, whether you put it in place yourself or get a company like ours to help. What is going on with diesel fuel prices? Let me try to give you my 2 cents - but please don't shoot the messenger.
I am sure you have all been reading or hearing about the price of crude oil on its way to $100 and above and diesel fuel and gas prices headed to over $4 a gallon. We hear the same things here at Sokolis Group and honestly don't know where the price of fuel will go. Read Full Article
12/30/2010 Happy New Year, Diesel Fuel Prices! By Glen Sokolis
The good news about diesel fuel prices is they are only $3.294 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy's weekly report. Prices could be $4.854, like they were the summer of 2008. The bad news about diesel fuel prices is they are at the highest they've been all year. Read Full Article
12/3/2010 Why Diesel Fuel Prices Need Increased Taxes By Glen Sokolis
Please wait a second before being upset at this headline. Before this article goes any further, politics don't sway my view on higher taxes, which will increase diesel fuel prices and gas prices -- but common sense might.
What can you buy today for the same price as you did in 1993? If you answered federal tax on diesel and gas, you are 100 percent correct. Since the tax on diesel fuel prices was 24.4 cents in 1993 and gas tax was18.4 cents, if they were adjusted for inflation they should be 43 cents on diesel fuel and 36 on gas. If those taxes had been collecting over the last 17 years, would our highway system be better? Read Full Article

10/29/2010 Your Diesel Fuel Prices & How Fuel Management System Knowledge Can Help By Glen Sokolis
In this day and age of high diesel fuel prices, fleet managers need to have a fairly comprehensive knowledge of the fleet fuel market. This was not always the case. Years ago when diesel fuel prices were considerably less expensive than it is today, and market instability was a daily move in the wholesale market of less than a penny, the fleet manager considered fueling as just another operating expense. After all a price increase of less than a penny was not going to bankrupt his company.
10/1/2010 Fleet Management and Fuel Savings By Glen Sokolis
Does anyone remember the days when the only time we thought about high diesel fuel prices was when OPEC decided to mess with us? Fuel cards use to be handed out and drivers would fuel at any place they wanted.
Unfortunately, it still does happen at a few companies. Back in the old days no one really paid attention to fuel management. It wasn't that important. But today, fuel management better be part of the picture, or companies just won't get the fuel savings that they should be. Read Full Article
